You asked

I am doing a research study on UKs energy consumption in regards to exports and imports and reliance of other countries.

I would like to make a freedom of information request of several things you may potentially have in regards to latest data you may have available from 2019. This is on the following:

  • Which countries and how much gas, electricity, other fossil fuels does the UK import for its domestic energy consumption needs? (Ideally percentage breakdown of imports/exports, each year)
  • How much of food/agriculture in the UK is imported from other countries vs how much is domestic to meet the UKs agricultural domestic needs?

We said

Thank you for your request.

Data on imports of gas, electricity and other fossil fuels, along with food and agricultural commodities can be found in our Trade in goods: country-by-commodity imports dataset. This dataset includes monthly import country-by-commodity data on the UK's trade in goods, including trade by all countries and selected commodities, non-seasonally adjusted. These data are in current prices and are presented on an annual, quarterly and monthly basis.

We do not hold information regarding the UK's domestic energy consumption needs. The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy may be better placed to assist with this request. They can be contacted via the following email address energy.stats@beis.gov.uk.
