Thank you for your request.

The COVID-19 Infection Survey is a household survey that estimates the number of people testing positive for infection and for antibodies in the UK. Our statistics refer to the number of current COVID-19 infections within the population living in private residential households.

We exclude those in hospitals, care homes and/or other communal establishments. In communal establishments, rates of COVID-19 infection are likely to be different.

We are responsible for the production of Mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with COVID-19 hospitalisations by vaccination status in the UK. To fulfil this request would require complex data linkage to NHS admissions and NHS vaccination data. We would also be unable to provide you with COVID-19 deaths by brand of vaccination by month. In order to provide this, we would need to complete complex data linkage to NHS COVID-19 vaccination data to census and mortality data. Both exercises would require a high level of statistical skill and judgement and extensive quality assurance. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

We do hold the following analysis Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England - Office for National Statistics which includes COVID-19 deaths by vaccination status from January 2021 to 2July 2021. This publication includes weekly mortality rates in England by vaccination status.

The data are for England only, as vaccinations data for Wales is not yet available to be linked to the mortality dataset and the PHDA covers England only. Therefore, we consider data for Wales as information not held.

A follow up publication was released on 1 November 2021 to include data from January 2021 to 24September 2021.

Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England - Office for National Statistics

We have another release including data up to 31 October 2021 provisionally scheduled for release on 20 December 2021.

Please see our latest vaccination and antibodies article (Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey, antibody and vaccination data, UK: 23 November 2021) and the accompanying dataset (Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey, antibody and vaccination data, UK) for modelled vaccination estimates based on the individuals in our sample.

However, please note that the Office for National Statistics are not responsible for official vaccination data and our estimates are based on individuals in the Covid Infection Survey sample. Official vaccination data for the population is held by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA, formerly Public Health England) and is available on the gov.uk dashboard. This is not currently presented by vaccine type. You may be able to request this from UKHSA via email at informationrights@ukhsa.gov.uk.

Analysis on vaccination type could be requested via our bespoke services route but would only be estimates of vaccinations by vaccine type based on our sample provided by the Covid-19 Infection Survey samples. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs. If you would like to request this bespoke dataset, please contact Infection.Survey.Analysis@ons.gov.uk to discuss your enquiry further. Please note, there may be a charge for this work which would be subject to our charging policy.

Further information and an overview of data about the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic from the Office for National Statistic (ONS) and other sources can be found in our Coronavirus (COVID-19) latest insights tool.
