Please provide the amounts the UK has contributed to the EU budget for the last 5 years from the following sources:

  • it collects customs tariffs and levies on behalf of the EU. 20% of the tariffs collected are kept by Member States to cover the cost of collection.

  • it contributes a percentage of its VAT base.

  • it contributes a percentage of its Gross National Income (GNI).

  • The resource retained by the UK to cover the costs associated with collecting customs tariffs and levies is published under the series identifier code QWUE. In the calendar year 2017 (January to December 2017), the UK received £686 million to cover the costs of collection.

  • The UK VAT based contributions to the EU are published under the series identifier code M9LI. In the calendar year ending 2017 (January to December 2017), the UK contributed £2,786 million to the institutions of EU for VAT-based contributions.

  • The UK Gross National Income (GNI) based contributions to the EU are published under the series identifier code M9LJ. In the calendar year ending 2017 (January to December 2017), the UK contributed £6,376 million to institutions of the EU for GNI-based contributions.
