We are responsible for the production of births statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk  and  info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

The data for births registered in England and Wales is publicly available on our website. Births in England and Wales: birth registrations provides a time series for births registered in 2023 and 2024. Birth characteristics provides a time series of births in England and Wales from 2014 to 2022, with table 20 of the 2022 edition providing total live births between 2007 and 2022. Table 2 provides numbers of still births from 1964 to 2022.

We do not hold data on body measurements or apparel industry standard size specifications.  

NHS England (NHSE) produce an annual health survey for England. Tables 1 and 2 of the Health Survey for England 2024: Data tables provide data on the mean height and weight of adults broken down by age-group covering the period 2016 to 2024. Table 9 provides data on waist circumference by sex and waist to height ratios.
