You asked

I am interested in looking at a breakdown of each item in each category of the UK Basket of Goods used to track inflation.

Whilst I understand you publish yearly additions and removals, I've been unable to find a detailed breakdown of each 750 or so items.

Would it be possible to receive a detailed breakdown of all items and if possible their individual weighting and any notes attached to the items in a similar format to the published updates each year (attached).

Thank you for your query about a full breakdown of the basket of goods and services used in our consumer price inflation statistics.

The full list of basket items in 2022 (and for earlier years) can be found in Annex A (for CPIH and CPI) and Annex B (for RPI) of the tables published alongside the article here. These are also available in the assosiated download named 'Copy of basket of goods 2022 tables combined.xlsx'. The weights associated with these items can be found on the consumer price inflation microdata page of our website in the item indices downloads. The column labelled 'COICOP_WEIGHT' provides the weights for CPI, 'ITEM_WEIGHT' provides the weights for RPI, and 'CPIH_COICOP_WEIGHT' provides the weights for CPIH.

Unfortunately, we do not hold notes on the full basket in the same way that we do hold notes on the annual basket changes. You can see historical changes by referring to previous basket articles, although this is still a long way from the full basket. The updates for 2017 to 2022 are available on our live website and earlier articles back to 1947 are stored in the national archives.
