We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. However, in collaboration with these organisations, we publish headline data for the United Kingdom as part of our Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages publication. The following table has been extracted from this source.

2021 data are still provisional and likely to change, this is to allow the inclusion of late registrations, which are deaths which have been referred for Coroner investigation.
Provisional figures for England and Wales are recorded weekly in our Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional or monthly as part of our Monthly mortality analysis, England and Wales.
Finalised data for England and Wales for 2021 will be published on 1 July 2022 as part of the Deaths Registered series.
2021 Data for United Kingdom will be published in December 2022; however, this can be obtained earlier from NRS and NISRA. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.
