You asked

1) Please provide me the total numbers and percentages of covid deaths in the year 2020 only, please provide this broken down by age range, to confirm the average age of death from this virus.

2) Please provide a breakdown of figures and percentages of covid registered deaths broken down by those double vaccinated and those not vaccinated at all. With those figures please provide age categories. I would like this date to start from 1st July to the current or most current date possible. Starting from the 2nd part of the year when the highest number of people double vaccinated will give a true an accurate analysis of the data, considering from January it took up to 6 months to provide and administer the vaccine to offer the double offering. Therefore do not give me from any date sooner than the end of June.

3) Please provide your analysis of the average age of the person who dies from covid. I request this data analysed to take into account only deaths from 1st July 2021 to the latest time possible in 2021. This is to allow for inclusion of the highest double vaccinated rate, which is likely to have peaked the end of July.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Numbers of deaths involving COVID-19 for England and Wales can be found in the latest weekly deaths publication. This publication includes a breakdown of deaths 'due to' COVID-19 (where it was recorded as the underlying cause of death) and deaths 'involving' COVID-19 (where it was mentioned anywhere on the death certificate). Tables showing numbers of deaths from COVID, for 2020 and 2021, by age group and sex are available here.

Numbers and percentages of COVID deaths registered, broken down by age and those double vaccinated and those not vaccinated at all, 1 July 2020 to latest date available

We published Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England which included data from January 2021 to 2July 2021. This analysis shows vaccination status within or exceeding 21 days, as this is the timeframe whereby the vaccine is deemed most effective.

A follow up publication was released on 1 November 2021 to include data from January 2021 to 24 September 2021: Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England. This will be updated to include data up to 31 October 2021, provisionally scheduled for release on 20 December 2021.

Vaccination status is assessed at date of death and includes those who:

  • were unvaccinated
  • received only the first dose, less than 21 days ago
  • received only the first dose, at least 21 days ago
  • received the second dose, less than 21 days ago
  • received the second dose, at least 21 days ago

These publications do not cover deaths 'due to' vaccination. It covers all deaths by vaccination status.

The number of deaths where an adverse reaction to the vaccine was mentioned on the death certificate can be found in Table 12 of our Monthly Mortality Analysis dataset.
