Would you please give me the total number of deaths in the UK from March 2020 to March 2021. I would like to see comparisons with the previous years to see exactly how many excess deaths there are due to Covid for that year.

National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Latest weekly death statistics for England and Wales, for 2020 and 2021, are available in our provisional weekly deaths publication. Data are available up to week ending 2nd April 2021. This publication shows that between Week 10 2020 (week ending 6th March 2020) and Week 9 2021 (week ending 5th March 2021) there were 651,235 total deaths registered in England and Wales. Of this figure 119,728 death registrations were due to COVID.

You might also be interested in our monthly mortality analysis publication which gives figures for March to December 2020. This will be updated to include death registrations for January to March 2021 on 22nd April 2021.
