Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

As part of a collaboration with the devolved administrations, we have produced a Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages dataset. This dataset contains annual historic UK mortality statistics up to 2020.

Due to individual publishing timelines, 2020 is the latest data available.

Unfortunately, we do not hold deaths per 100,000 per population for Northern Ireland and Scotland. NRS and NISRA will need to be contacted for this information. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Age-standardised mortality rates for England and Wales

We also publish annual mortality rates in an ad hoc dataset: Annual deaths and mortality rates, 1838 to 2020. This provides crude mortality rates (per 100,000 population) from 1838-2020 in England and Wales.

Provisional analysis for of 2021 deaths and age-standardised mortality rates can be found in table 10 of our monthly mortality analysis dataset.
