Total annual deaths 2010 to 2021

Please supply ​number of deaths recorded in total per year, every year from 2010 to 2021.

​Thank you for your enquiry.

We only hold mortality data for England and Wales. However, we have collaborated with National Records Scotland and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research agency to produce annual numbers of deaths for the UK and constituent countries for the period 1887 to 2020.

Annual numbers of deaths available in the Vital statistics in the UK publication. This publication will be updated to include deaths for 2021 in December 2022.

For England and Wales, provisional numbers of monthly deaths from January 2021 to January 2022 are available in our monthly mortality analysis publication.

We have produced the following custom outputs that contain data for earlier years:

Number of deaths from all causes by day, month and year of occurrence, by sex and age group, England and Wales, 1970 to 2020.

Monthly death registrations by age group and local authority, England and Wales: 1988 to 2019

Death registrations, all causes, by registration month and Middle layer Super Output Area (MSOA), England and Wales: 2018 to 2020
