You asked

Could I please have cause of death data for January 2019 to current month 2022.

I would like the data to have months for the columns and cause of death as rows. Top 50 causes of death and all other deaths. I would like to be able to see that this balances back to all causes of death.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

We hold the following monthly analysis Monthly mortality analysis, England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) which provides provisional death registration data for England and Wales, broken down by sex, age and country. This data provides figures for the top ten leading causes of death and includes deaths due to coronavirus (COVID-19) and leading causes of death from 2020 to the latest available publication of June 2022. July data will be published on 23 August 2022.

Please note all data for 2022 is provisional and therefore subject to change, this is to allow the inclusion of late registrations which are deaths which have been referred for Coroner investigation.

For annual data from 2019 to 2021, deaths by ICD-10 code are available in our 21st Century Mortality Deaths registered in England and Wales -- 21st century mortality and in the Deaths Registered Series.

Annual deaths by cause is also available as part of the explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice

We also hold the following user requested data sets under the ONS Open Data Policy.

If these outputs do not meet your needs, we can create a bespoke user requested data for you. This falls outside of the Freedom of Information regime and is subject to disclosure control, legal frameworks, resources and agreement to costs under the ONS Charging policy.

If you would like to discuss this further and perhaps obtain a quote for a bespoke output, please contact the HALE Customer Services Team on Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
