Thank you for your request regarding the number of people aged 16 or over who said they reported crime to the police, by ethnicity.

We publish estimates from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) on the proportion of crimes which come to the attention of the police or Action Fraud within Table D10 of our annual trend and demographic tables. These data are not broken down by victim characteristics, therefore it is not possible to provide you with the ethnicity of the respondent under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

Under FOIA your request is considered as 'information not held' as we would need to create the bespoke analysis in order to answer your request. As we are not obligated to create information under FOIA, such analysis would fall outside the FOI regime and would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources, and agreement of costs.

Special extracts and tabulations of crime data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries should be made to: crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk. We recommend that you contact the crime team directly in order to discuss your data requirements in more detail.

The CSEW is a victimisation survey whose coverage is restricted to the population permanently resident in households in England and Wales and while it covers a broad section of victim-based crime experienced by the general population, it does not cover all offences.
