You asked

The number of suicides in men and women aged between 20 and 66 years in the last five years (broken down by years 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24).

For those in the last year (2023/24) where an occupation was provided at the time of death registration, can the figures be broken down by sex, age and occupation?

Thank you for your request.

Our annual Suicides in England and Wales publication provides the number of suicides by age group but unfortunately the age groups do not correspond to the ages you have requested.

We also have a user-requested dataset that shows the number of suicides by occupation and sex for deaths registered between 2011 and 2022.

We have not created analysis for suicides by occupation for 2023. You are able to order this bespoke tabulation via our User Requested Data Service. Information on suicides by occupation along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order. Please note these services are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our charging policy.

Deaths due to suicide are referred to a coroner for investigation. We do not receive the death registration until the coroner's report has been completed. More information on delayed registrations can be found in our Impact of Registration Delays Bulletin. This means that we are still in the data collection process for suicides registered in 2024. So we have only produced provisional figures of suicides registered in 2024.
