We are unable to provide details on the rate of suicide in males who are under police investigation as our statistics are based on the information received on the death certificate when a death is registered.
Suicide statistics for those under police investigation are available from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (formerly known as The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC)) in the ‘Deaths during or following police contact in England and Wales’ report. The latest available figures are for 2017/18. These statistics concern ‘apparent suicides’ and aren’t necessarily based on coroners’ verdicts as, in most cases, verdicts are still pending.
