You asked
Please can you give the amount of street preachers arrested for hate speech, ideally broken down into their religious sect, in the following years:
- 2020-21
- 2021-22
- 2022-23
- 2024-25
We said
Thank you for your request.
Unfortunately, we do not hold data on crimes directly involving street preachers and hate speech.
We primarily produce statistics from two main sources, the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and Police Recorded Crime (PRC). The Home Office are responsible for producing Hate Crime statistics from both police recorded crime data and Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) data.
Because of sample sizes and the number of hate crimes estimated by the CSEW, figures for one year are unreliable and so 3 survey years must be combined. The latest CSEW-based published statistics covered the year ending (YE) March 2018 to YE March 2020.
- The most recent publication containing CSEW data can be found on the GOV.UK website: Hate crime, England and Wales, 2019 to 2020.
- The latest publication containing PRC data is for YE March 2024 can also be found on the GOV.UK site: Hate crime, England and Wales, year ending March 2024.
If you have any specific questions on these data or publications, the Home Office would be best placed to help you. They can be contacted at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.
If you have any further crime data related questions, please email us at crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
