You asked

If possible, please provide me with statistics for unsolved homicide, including as much information as possible on the victim and details of homicide, as well as number of homicide cases that were unsolved per year from around 1990. Any information you can provide me with would be gratefully useful and appreciated.

Thank you for your enquiry.

We routinely publish detailed statistics on homicides in England and Wales and the most up to date figures can be found in our ‘Homicide in England and Wales: year ending March 2017’ publication. Appendix Table 14 provides homicide outcomes and while “unsolved” is not a specific category you may be able to derive a proxy measure by combining no suspect charged and proceeds discontinued, not initiated.

Data regarding homicides is sourced from the Homicide Index, which is held and collated by the Home Office. They may be able to assist you further with your request. They can be contacted at the following email address: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.

If you would like any further information in the future, you can email us at crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
