You asked

Please provide the following data for each company in UK:

  • Company registered name
  • UK registered number
  • Post code
  • SIC code(s)
  • Financial year end date DD/MM/YY (or MM/YY)
  • Reporting year
  • Sales turnover
  • Gross profit
  • Net profit
  • Stocks (Inventory) value
  • Number of employees

This initiative is specifically targeted at the significant number of UK SME manufacturers, so the following scope of data is sought:-

  • UK manufacturers or MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) companies of any type in any sector.
  • SME - employees below 250.
  • Sales turnover > £4m (below £5m company accounts are unaudited and we have found that inventory figures are likely to be inaccurate and understated - £4m captures those that may cycle around £5m)
  • Years 1997 to latest (2019??) - this gives a span of 10 years prior to the Financial crash (which is highly relevant) and correlates with existing analysis we have undertaken.

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we cannot release information on individual businesses, as this would be considered personal information.

Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders it an offence to disclose information held by the Statistics Board for statistical purposes that would identify an individual or a body corporate. As we are prohibited by law from publishing statistics in which individual businesses can be identified, we find that Section 44 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies. Section 44 is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.

If aggregated data tables are of interest then please contact our data service team on idbrdas@ons.gov.uk to discuss your request. They will be able to advise on the information that is available.
