Self employment and population statistics

We said

1. Estimates of the number of self-employed people are available back to 1992 at data table EMP01. Estimates before 1992 are are not held

2. ONS does not hold any information relating to the number of self-employed people who do not pay tax

3. UK population estimates for 1960-2013 are published as Table 003198: UK Population Estimates 1851-2013 on the ONS website

   ONS does not currently hold population estimates for 2014. These will be produced in 2015 and published in June 2015. If you have any queries regarding population estimates please contact pop.info@ons.gov.uk

4. ONS publishes estimates of Long-Term International Migration (LTIM) for 1991 – 2014 on its website

   ONS publishes estimates of long-term international migration from the International Passenger Survey for 1975 – 2014

   A limited number of IPS tables in Excel format and pdfs of historically published IPS tables for the years 1964-1974 aren’t published on the website but are available on request*. I have attached the most relevant of these in Annex A

   ONS does not hold Long-term international migration data prior to 1964

   The estimates for total immigrants to the UK has also been published in an interactive International Migration Timeline product which provides UK total inflow, outflow and net international migration estimates dating back to 1964

   LTIM estimates can be found up to year ending March 2014. Please note that the 2013 and 2014 LTIM estimates are currently provisional. Final 2013 IPS and LTIM, and provisional LTIM estimates for year ending June 2014 will be published on 27 November 2014 and will be accessible via the above web path

5. IPS based immigration estimates for EU countries are only available between 1975-2012

   LTIM estimates for EU immigration can be found up to year ending March 2014 via the same web path. Please note that the 2013 and 2014 LTIM estimates are currently provisional

   Final 2013 IPS and LTIM, and provisional LTIM estimates for year ending June 2014 will be published on 27 November 2014 and will be accessible via the above web path

6. IPS based emigration estimates for British citizens are available between 1975-2012 following this web path

   LTIM estimates for British emigration can be found up to year ending March 2014 via the same web path. Please note that the 2013 and 2014 LTIM estimates are currently provisional
