You asked

I would like to obtain information on road deaths in Benllech Yns Mon, over the last 5 years.

We said

Thank you for your request.

Our mortality data comes from the information collected at death registration. All of the conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10). From all of these causes an underlying cause of death is selected using ICD-10 coding rules.

The underlying cause of death is defined by WHO as:

a) the disease or injury that initiated the train of events directly leading to death, or

b) the circumstances of the accident or violence that produced the fatal injury

Where a death certificate records a road traffic accident as the underlying cause, we would assign an ICD-10 code from the range V01-V99 'Transport Accidents'.

ONS produce a number of geographies which range in size, with one of the smallest geography levels being Middle Layer Super Output Area (MSOA), this is the geography that captures Benllech yns Mon: 'W02000005 - Beaumaris and Benllech'

There were 0 road traffic accident deaths where the place of death was recorded as being in the Beaumaris and Benllech MSOA (W02000005) between 2018 and 2022.

Please note that this figure is for the number of road traffic accident deaths that were certified as having taken place in Beaumaris and Benllech, it does not include those who may have had an accident in these areas and then subsequently died in a hospital outside the area.
