You asked

Please can you supply me data on how many cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) were reported to you or others in the UK especially England and Wales each year between 2004 to 2015, if possible, by age of alleged victim, police force and occupation of person making the report?

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not hold the information you have requested.

We publish statistics taken from the Crime Survey for England and Wales and crimes recorded by the police. The offence category ‘8N Assault with injury’ incorporates incidents of female genital mutilation (FGM) however it also includes other types of offences too. We have a count of all offences recorded under ‘Assault with injury’ for England and Wales as a whole, but we cannot extract only the incidents of female genital mutilation as we do not hold this breakdown of information.

We have been in contact with the Home Office who have suggested that their Safeguarding Directorate may be able to help with your request. They can be contacted via: CPFGFOIRequests@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk. Please mark the email ‘FAO safeguarding directorate’ to ensure that the email is directed correctly.

You may be interested in the experimental statistics in the attached link, published by NHS Digital, which relates specifically to FGM in England. These figures cover only those cases of FGM that come to the attention of healthcare providers.
