FOI REF: FOI/2023/4978

You asked

I would like to make a FOI request in regards to workplace related violence.

I am aware that the ONS publishes figures on rates of violent crime through the Crime Survey for England and Wales, alongside the Telephone-operated Crime Survey for England and Wales.

In particular, I would like to see if you have data pertaining to the rates of workplace violence based on:

  • Gender
  • Type of work (position and sector)
  • Race
  • Age

Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the data you have requested.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) publish statistics regarding violence at work. Please see their dashboard and full report for the year 2019 to 2020. The report and dashboard use data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales 2019 to 2020.

Additionally, Table A4 of the Crime in England and Wales Appendix tables includes police recorded crimes, 'assault with and without injury on a constable' and 'assault with injury on an emergency worker'. The Police Recorded Crimes data is collated and provided to us by the Home Office. They may be able to help you further regarding breakdown on the suggested data, and can be contacted at POCD@homeoffice.gov.uk.

If you would like crime related information in the future, you can simply email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
