Thank you for your request for information about Public Sector statistics.
We publish statistics for wages and salaries (wages bill) and for employers’ social contributions (mostly pension contributions) in the UK National Accounts, The Blue Book. Please note that while most of the employers’ social contributions are pension contributions, there are also some non-pension contributions included within our figures.
Tables 1 and 2 show the latest available data, which are from the 2017 edition and cover the years 1987 to 2016 inclusive. The next publication will be on 31 July 2018. We don’t have data for these components for years before 1987.
The data are published separately for three components of the public sector: central government, local government, and public corporations. We do not produce statistics by department or job role.
