Would it be possible to get refreshed statistics on public houses closures only (instead of public houses & bars) between 2016-2023 and split by region?
Do you collect any data on the types of public houses which have closed? For example, pubs closures by product offering i.e. drinks provision only or food & drinks provision.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request enquiring the number of public houses closures by region for the years 2016 to 2023.
Unfortunately, Standard Industrial Classifications (SIC) information is only available as low as 5 digits. SIC 56302 Public houses and bars cannot be split further into separate categories i.e. public houses.
The following publication, Annual Business demography, provides information at enterprise level (the whole business level) and the latest data available is for 2022. This will be updated on 18 November 2024 to include 2023 data.
Analysis has already been published relating to Local Units (sites) in SIC 56302 for the years 2009 to 2022 by region. This data has been created using our UK business, activity, size and location publication. The data are a snapshot of the Inter-Departmental Business Register at a specific time, March of each year: Number of pubs by region, 2009 to 2022.
