Please provide data on numbers of protesters who have received criminal sentences (not just arrests) in England and Wales between 1 January 2019 and 28 July 2024.
The Acts involved include but are not restricted to:
- Terrorism Act 2000
- Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022
- Public Order Act 2023
- Public Order Act 1986 (Serious Disruption to the Life of the Community) Regulations 2023
Ideally, I would like a breakdown by
- The legal measure under which the sentence was issued
- Date of sentencing
- Duration of sentence
- Type of sentence (custodial, suspended, fine, etc)

Thank you for your enquiry.
Unfortunately we do not hold the data you have requested. We publish data on crime from two main sources; the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and police recorded crime (PRC). These sources focus on crime as it is experienced by victims. We do not generally publish statistics on offenders.
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and Crown Prosecution Service are primarily responsible for data on offenders and may be able to help you with your enquiry. They can be contacted at ESD@justice.gov.uk and enquiries@cps.gov.uk respectively. The MoJ also publish statistics every quarter which you may find useful. The Home Office are responsible for data on arrests if you also require this. Their email address is CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.
If you have any further crime related queries, please contact us on CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
