​I would be very grateful if you could give me some indication of the proportion of company board directors who were women in the 1950s. If the 1950s statistics are not available, any other decade between 1900 and 2000 would do.

The attached zip file contains an extract from the 1951 Census topic report 'Occupation Tables for England and Wales' – Table 03 – Female Occupations and Status Aggregates by Age (Population aged 15 and over) and Marital Condition (pages 36-47).

Highlighted with a yellow arrow are the categories that include 'Director':

00044 700 Manageress's and directors (Communications)

00045 750 Company directors
