You asked

I am looking to find some figures on preferred place of death in comparison with the number of people who die at home?

I am specifically looking for figures within the Lothian region of Scotland from 08/15 to present.

The National Survey of Bereaved People (VOICES, Views of Informal Carers – Evaluation of Services) collects information on bereaved peoples’ views on the quality of care provided to a friend or relative in the last 3 months of life, for England. The most recent publication is for data collected in 2015 which can be found here: http://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/healthcaresystem/bulletins/nationalsurveyofbereavedpeoplevoices/england2015

Section 15 in the publication 'Preferences and choice at the end of life' provides the information you are requesting for England. In the associated excel tables (http://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/healthcaresystem/datasets/nationalsurveyofbereavedpeoplevoices), the tab "Priorities (3mnth)" provides the responses provided to the questions around place of death (Questions 38 - 46). ONS has only collected this data for England. We do not know of any equivalent data source in Scotland.
