Please provide statistics on all deaths that underwent post-mortems in the UK in 2023 and 2024:
For males, females, and other gendered post-mortems, please disaggregate the statistics to also include the ten most frequent causes of deaths for each gender.

Our Impact of Registration Delays Bulletin provides the number of deaths that were registered between 2014 and 2023 where a postmortem was carried out, by sex and agegroup. Please see table 3 in the dataset linked above.
We have not produced these statistics by cause of death. The requested information would therefore need to be created as a custom output. Information on the number of deaths where a postmortem was conducted, by cause of death along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales may be available to order. Please note these services are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our charging policy.
