Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.

We have created the tables you require, please see the associated downloads 'Population aged 65 to 84 2020 to 2040' and 'Population aged 85 plus 2020 to 2040'.

This dataset was downloaded from Nomis. Nomis is a service run on behalf of ONS by the University of Durham.  Please find instructions for using Nomis in the associated download 'Nomis Navigation Instructions 2021'.

In order to build your files:

  • Open Nomis link.
  • Go to the 'data downloads' section and click on 'query data'.
  • Click on population estimates/projections and you will be presented with five choices.
  • Click on the fifth one - National Population projections by single year of age (2018).
  • From the left hand panel click on 'geography'.
  • Under commonly used from the drop down menu next to countries select "Some" or all select the countries you require or all.
  • If you require your data by age click on 'age' on the left hand panel and again you choose from individual ages or click on the 'tick all' to include all ages.
  • From the left hand menu click on Projected Year - select the years you require.
  • You can choose how you want your finished dataset to look by choosing 'format/layout' on the left hand side.
  • The last step is to download the data, click on 'download data' from the 'get your data' section of the left hand panel.
  • It will now say 'extracting data' and after a few seconds you can download your data in Excel format.

If you require any assistance using Nomis or have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on pop.info@ons.gov.uk.
