Population of children and young people in Oxford

You asked

I’ve been asked to get some data on the population of children and young people (aged 0 – 18) in Oxfordshire, but by postcode. Is this something that you are able to help with at all?

We said

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding data on the population of children and young people (aged 0 to 18 years) in Oxfordshire at postcode level. 

We collected this information during the 2021 Census, which is the most up-to-date data we hold.

We've published a previously commissioned table providing 2021 Census data by age and postcode sector, which can be found in the associated download named 'Census 2021 - age by postcode sector - CT21_0228_Census 2021'.

We've also published Census 2021 data at Middle Super Output Area (MSOA) level by single year, which can be found in the associated download named '2021 Census Dataset - TS007 - Age by single year'. This dataset has been sourced from the Nomis website. Nomis is run by Durham University on behalf of the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Due to statistical disclosure control measures, we are unable to disclose age data at full postcode level. Providing data at such a small geographic scale could risk identifying individuals, particularly when broken down by age. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) considers disclosure of information held by the Statistics Board (ONS) for statistical purposes that would identify an individual or a body corporate a criminal offence. As we are prohibited by law from publishing statistics in which individuals can be identified, Section 44(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.

If you would like us to produce an output for postcode sectors for Oxfordshire only, we can provide this via our commissioned table service. Such services are subject to legal frameworks, resources and agreement of costs.
