Please provide the current quantity (within the range of +/-5%) of British males aged 60 currently residing within the British Isles.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry concerning the most recent estimates of British males aged 60 living in the British Isles.

We collect data on the country of birth and nationality of the UK population from the Annual Population Survey (APS). The APS is the Labour Force Survey (LFS) plus various sample boosts. It is a household survey and so does not include people living in most types of communal establishment. Further information on the APS is available in the "Notes to tables" section located within the spreadsheets.

It is also important to note that the ONS produces population estimates data for the United Kingdom (UK) alone, which includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and not for the Republic of Ireland. Although we cannot provide you with data for the British Isles, we have provided you with the number of British males aged 60 currently residing in the United Kingdom.

The estimate of the number of British males aged 60 living in the UK is 337,000, with a confidence interval of +/- 26,000 (please see note below).

Please note: Estimates are provided alongside 95% confidence intervals to indicate the reliability of the estimate. These confidence intervals provide a range (by adding to, and subtracting from, the estimate) in which the true value is likely to lie. There is a 95% probability that the true figure lies within this range. Users should be cautious when making inferences from estimates with large confidence intervals. If the confidence interval is higher than the estimate, it is not considered reliable for practical purposes.

I hope this answers your questions but please contact pop.info@ons.gov.uk if you need any further information.
