You asked
Please could you provide me with statistics concerning the number of police officers, firstly, who are killed and secondly, who are injured, within England and Wales, by either the discharge of a firearm or the use of a sharp-bladed instrument.
This is for the period 2013/4 to 2023/24 breaking the statistics down into year by year figures.

Thanks for your enquiry.
The only data we hold which provide a more detailed breakdown are published in tables 17 and 18 of the following analysis: Appendix tables: homicide in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk). These tables contain data from the Home Office Homicide Index and show the apparent circumstances of offences currently recorded as homicide, of which one element is "While attempting to restrain or arrest individual". These only include cases where a police officer or a person actively assisting a police officer was killed.
Unfortunately, we do not hold any further breakdowns by the level of injury.
Police recorded crime data and Homicide Index data are supplied to us by the Home Office, who are responsible for the collation of recorded crime data supplied by police forces in England and Wales.
The Home Office may be able to provide you with a more detailed breakdown and can be contacted at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.
If you have any further crime related queries, please feel free to contact us at crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk.
