You asked

I would like to know:

1) -The percentages of people born outside the UK living in each individual postcode district from NG1-NG25 (incl. NG1 and NG25), with data split by postcode district

2) -For these percentages to be further broken down into ethnicity (for example "10% of people in NG13 were born outside the UK, and 25% of those born outside the UK in NG13 are Black Caribbean")

3) -For this to be presented as an Excel spreadsheet if possible, with row labels indicating percentage of people born outside the UK in the district and their ethnicities by percentage, and column labels indicating postcode district

Thank you for your request.

Our latest data about the Population of the UK by country of birth and nationality is at local authority (LA) level. These data are for the year July 2019 to June 2021; Table 1.1 shows persons by country of birth. Please note that even at LA level some of these are small and therefore statistically not robust.

Our best and most up-to-date, official estimates of the population of England and Wales by ethnic group remains those derived from the 2011 Census. These data are freely available at national and subnational level on the Nomis website.

These most recent, official estimates of the population of the UK by ethnic group are available at national and subnational level here. You may be interested in the following tables:

  • The Ethnic group [KS201EW] table has a breakdown of the population of England and Wales as at census day, 27 March 2011, by 24 ethnic group categories (or classifications).
  • The Ethnic group (detailed) [QS211EW] table has a more detailed breakdown of the population by 251 ethnic group categories (or classifications).

From Nomis you will be able to download data for the relevant postcodes and calculate the percentages you require.

Should you require any further information, or require any assistance with calculating the percentages from our data, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at pop.info@ons.gov.uk.
