I believe that it would be in the public interest to publish registered death data as open data.

This is the list of data that is required:

Full name
Date of birth
Date of death
Permanent address at the time of the resident's death

We said

We are governed by the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA). The SRSA protects confidentiality by heavily restricting ONS disclosure of 'personal information', and the permitted disclosures would not include publishing a register of deaths. The definition of personal information is broader than that of personal data, as it includes both corporate bodies and deceased individuals. Unlawful disclosure of personal information is a criminal offence under the SRSA.

Additionally we receive death registration data for the purpose of producing and disseminating official statistics only, and could not use it for any other purpose in any event.

Mortality data is collected by individual registrars and is then collated by the General Register Office, who may be able to assist you further with this query.
