ONS occupation coding tool

We recently found the ONS Occupation Coding Tool and we were wondering if is possible to obtain a suitable file containing entries from the entire database?

The data we would like would be all the text data covering the job description, entry requirements, tasks, NS-SEC categorisation, related jobs and related groups as well at the actual occupation code itself. If there is any further underlying data, such as salary ranges, etc. then this would also be of interest to us.

Please find attached within the zip file the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) manuals which are presented as three volumes:

• Volume 1 – the structure of the classification with descriptions of the unit groups. Volume 1 outlines SOC principles and concepts; the typical entry routes and associated qualifications; tasks and related job titles

• Volume 2 – the coding index, which lists job titles alphabetically and includes notes on coding (pdf version published in June 2010). The excel file contains new entries added to the published index from June 2010. Please note that the coding tool does not contain the new entries from version 5 of the index.

• Volume 3 – the National Statistics Socio-economic Classification, which includes the derivation tables relating the NS-SEC to SOC2010.

Please note that jobs are classified into groups according to their skill level and skill specialism, salary is not taken into account.
