You asked

Please provide the number of people in the UK who are over the state pension age (as defined by the government for each year) and are still in employment.

If possible, please also provide this figure broken down by year for each of the last ten years, with a year-end of 30 June 2025. If you cannot use that year-end, please use whatever year-end you use internally.

Thank you for your query regarding the number of people working over the state pension age.

Although we do not publish this statistic directly, it can be derived from two tables that we regularly publish.

Each quarter we publish table A04: Summary of employment, unemployment and economic inactivity for people below state pension age. For each period it gives the estimate for the number of people in the three labour market states, who were below state pension age at that time.

We also publish estimates of the total number of people aged 16 and over in employment, unemployment and economic inactivity in a number of tables, including A02 NSA: Employment, unemployment and economic inactivity for people aged 16 and over and aged from 16 to 64 (not seasonally adjusted).

The number aged over state pension age in employment would be the difference between the total aged 16 and over in employment and the number below state pension age in employment.

Since the estimates of the number of people below state pension age are not seasonally adjusted, you should use a version of total employment that is also not seasonally adjusted for this calculation.

As this information is reasonably accessible via another route, Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.
