Please could you provide me with the latest official figure for how many Nigerians are living in the UK.

Thank you for your request.

We publish estimates on the numbers of people resident in the UK by country of birth and nationality.

For Nigeria, the latest (1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017) published estimates are that 190,000 people (with a confidence interval (CI) of 21,000) that were born in Nigeria live in the UK.

The same published estimates are that there are 102,000 (CI 15,000) people with Nigerian citizenship living in the UK.

The full table can be accessed through this link;

Please note that country of birth cannot change and does not always coincide with nationality; nationality, on the other hand, can change – For example, someone born in Nigeria could take British citizenship on moving to the UK.

Confidence intervals show that we think that the true figure lies between the lower and upper bands represented; so 102,000 (CI 15,000) means that we are 95% certain that the true figure is between 87,000 and 117,000 people.

The next release for the UK population by country of birth and nationality is planned for 24 May 2018.
