Number of migrants working in the NHS

Please would you let me know in writing if you hold information of the following description:

Information concerning how many migrants worked in the National Health Service for each year since 2005 including their countries of origin, the jobs they did, and what proportion they made of the overall workforce in the NHS in each of those years.

Please can I see the information.

Thank you for your recent FOI query regarding 'how many migrants worked in the National Health Service for each year since 2005 including their countries of origin, the jobs they did, and what proportion they made of the overall workforce in the NHS in each of those years'.

As advised, ONS does not hold the information you require and the Annual Population Survey data would only partially address your query for the reasons you were previously given, as noted below:

1. we only sample / interview in private residential addresses. Some migrants (and NHS workers) will live in NHS accommodation or communal establishments. Therefore they will be missed in our results
   

2. we cannot directly identify NHS workers, and instead can identify health sector workers, split by private / public sector

Information from the Annual Population Survey can be obtained from DART (Data Advice and Relations Team) of ONS Social Survey. Special extracts and tabulations of Annual Population Survey data are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries should be made to socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk

As this information is already available to you via this route ONS considers that S21(1) applies to this request and the information does not have to be supplied under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. S21(1) is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.
