We are responsible for the production of Mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Our Deaths registered series will provide registered deaths by age, sex, selected underlying causes of death and the leading causes of death. This contains death rates and death registrations by area of residence and single year of age. Data is available from 2012-2019 for England and Wales. Data for 2020 in England and Wales will be available in the Summer of 2021, once the data have been finalised.

Using our NOMIS Webservice, you can create a full ICD-10 code breakdown of all deaths for 2013-2019.

The accompanying download, named 'Deaths in England and Wales by broad cause chapter 2015-2019' provides an extract from NOMIS showing registered deaths in England and Wales by broad cause chapter for 2015-2019.

NOMIS Footnote
