You asked

  1. How many people were issued with a fine, for not completing the form during the census prior to the one being currently carried out?

  2. Were fines issued by courts or is this a process solely under your domain?

  3. How many laws people are currently meant to abide by in the UK?

Thank you for your request.

  1. For the 2011 Census, please see the following link to a previously answered FOI, which provides the number of fines and guilty convictions as a result of non-compliance: https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/noncomplianceproceduresrelatingtothe2011census

  2. All fines were issued by the court following guilty convictions. ONS has no authority to directly issue fines.

  3. Unfortunately, we do not hold data on the number of laws to abide by in the UK.
