You asked

I would like to request NHS nursing staff suicide statistics between the period of 2014 – 2019 (present day). I am particularly interested in Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust nursing staff.

Thank you for your enquiry.

The data you require can be found in an ad-hoc request looking at the number of suicides among health professionals and health-related occupations, England and Wales, deaths registered from 2011 to 2018. This includes the number of suicide deaths among nurses:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/adhocs/10471numberofsuicidesamonghealthprofessionalsenglandandwales2011to2018

The number of deaths is presented to 2018, which is the latest available year of complete death registrations. We are not able to distinguish between NHS nurses and Non-NHS nurses and we do not have data on the NHS foundation trust that these people worked in as the data we hold is based on information at death registration. This is limited to what is recorded on the death certificate by a doctor or information about the cause and circumstances of the death provided by a coroner.

We can provide the number of suicides per year by key variables such as age, sex and geographical area. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). If you wish to discuss your data requirements in more detail you can contact the Mortality Analysis team at mortality@ons.gov.uk.
