Could you please tell me:

  1. How many newborn babies have been abandoned in the UK, year on year, from 1990 to 2005.

  2. How many of these babies did not survive?

Unfortunately we do not hold information on the number of newborn babies abandoned from 1990 to 2005, or numbers of how many babies did or did not survive.

The General Register Office (GRO) maintain a register of abandoned children, and so your request may be better placed with them.

Information on births in England and Wales can be obtained from the Vital Statistics Outputs team. Special extracts and tabulations of births data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).
