We are responsible for the production of baby names statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. The requested information is not available in our published information, as the numbers of baby names with a count of 2 or less in total within England and Wales are suppressed in order to protect the confidentiality of individuals. This is consistent with the disclosure control methodology used for births. For the same reason, we are also unable to disclose the requested information under FOI. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders the disclosure of information held by the Statistics Board for statistical purposes that would identify an individual a criminal offence. As we are prohibited by law from publishing statistics in which individuals can be identified, Section 44(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.
