You asked:

I would like to request murder statistics for the dates between 1 January 2017 to December 31 2017?

For each offence, can we please have the date of the offence, the street (or postcode) in which it took place, and the sex, age and ethnicity of the victim.

And where possible, can we have the sex, age and ethnicity any person charged with murder.

Can we please have each offence broken down individually?

We said:

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not hold the requested data regarding victim or offender characteristics for murders that occurred in England and Wales in 2017.

The latest detailed data we have on murders that occurred in England and Wales relate to the year ending March 2016 (that is, April 2015 to March 2016). These data are available in the appendix tables of our ‘Focus on: Violent crime and sexual offences, England and Wales: year ending March 2016’ release;

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/compendium/focusonviolentcrimeandsexualoffences/yearendingmarch2016

They contain information regarding the sex and age of the victim and the sex of the suspect(s) but not the age of the suspect(s), the ethnicity of either the victim or suspect(s), nor the exact location in which the murder occurred. Additionally, these data are only available to us at an aggregate level as we do not hold any information regarding specific individual cases.

The aforementioned data on murders are sourced from the Homicide Index, which is held and collated by the Home Office. They may be able to assist you further with your request; information on how to contact the Home Office is available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/home-office.

If you would like any further information in the future, you can email us at crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
