We said
Thank you for your request.
Our Homicide in England and Wales article analyses data from the Home Office Homicide Index. The index contains record-level information about each homicide recorded by police in England and Wales.
You can find the number of offences initially recorded as homicide in England and Wales for the year ending December 1960 to year ending December 1970 in Table 1 of our Appendix tables: homicide in England and Wales.
Please note the term "homicide" covers the offences of murder, manslaughter and infanticide.
Table 1 also includes offences currently recorded as homicide as a rate per million population from the year ending December 1967 onwards. We do not hold these data for 1960 to 1966.
As these data are collected by the Home Office, you may wish to contact them directly if you have any further questions. They can be contacted by email at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk .
