FOI/2021/2304

Are you able to supply the last 5 years of murder and rape statistics for the UK with the number of convictions per year and the breakdown of nationalities sentenced for the crimes please.

Thank you for your request.

We publish crime data for England and Wales only. Statistics for Scotland and Northern Ireland are produced and published separately.

Data on homicides can be found in our annual Homicide in England and Wales release. This contains data on the number of homicide offences back to the year ending December 1969 (see Table 1 of the accompanying appendix tables) and the outcome of homicide offences for the principal suspect, including the number of suspects convicted (see Tables 21 to 29 of the accompanying appendix tables).

Unfortunately, we do not hold or publish any data on the nationality of the principal suspects of homicide. The data in this release are provided to us by the Home Office and it may be that they are able to help you further, they can be contacted at crimeandpolicestats@homeoffice.gov.uk.

You can find data on the number of rape offences recorded by the police back to the year ending March 2003 in Table A4 of our appendix tables published alongside our quarterly Crime in England and Wales release.

We published some data on convictions and sentences for rape offences in our Sexual offending: victimisation and the path through the criminal justice system, however this only contains data up to the year ending March 2018. You may be able to find further data on convictions and sentencing from the Ministry of Justice or the Crown Prosecution Service.
