For 2013-2016 deaths by age, sex, geography and cause are available from our explorable dataset:

Underlying cause of death is coded using version 10 of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). Deaths from respiratory diseases, including asthma, are assigned the ICD-10 codes J00-J99. Deaths specifically to asthma are assigned the ICD-10 codes J45-J46.
For previous years this data can be obtained from the customer services team of the Vital Statistics Outputs Branch. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).
