1. Deaths involving COVID-19
The following publication, Deaths due to and involving COVID-19, registered in England and Wales, provides the annual number of deaths registered in England and Wales due to and involving coronavirus (COVID-19), with a breakdown by age, sex, region, and local authority in 2020 and 2021.
We also publish provisional data for 2022 and 2023 in Monthly Mortality analysis and Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional for deaths involving COVID-19 by age group.
Finalised data for 2022 will be available in August/September with the publication of the Deaths Registered Series.
We also hold the following user requested datasets:
Death occurrences by sex, five-year age group and underlying cause (ICD-10 code) England and Wales: 2010 to 2021 - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) – Use ICD-10 code U071 and U072.

2. Deaths by vaccination status
For COVID-19 deaths by vaccination status, we hold the following analysis, which provides data from April 2021 to December 2022 by age group and month: Deaths by vaccination status, England. This is the latest data available.
In the previous versions tab, there is analysis from January 2020 to May 2022. Please note, analysis between April 2021 to December 2022 was completed using Census 2021 data, whereas all previous publications used Census 2011 data.
Deaths involving COVID-19 in England from 1 January 2023 and 30 April 2023 where the patient has received at least 1 dose of the vaccine is available to order via our bespoke services route. As previously mentioned, such services are subject to legal frameworks, resources and agreement of costs, in line with our charging policy.
