You asked
What are the recorded figures for monies lost specifically to Government fraud between 1 January 2024 and 21 December 2024?
We said
Thank you for your enquiry.
We publish data on fraud from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and from the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) in our Crime in England and Wales: appendix tables.
Unfortunately, neither of these sources covers the specific information you have requested and we do not produce an overall number for government fraud as we do not hold this information. However, our latest Crime in England and Wales: appendix tables for the year ending September 2024 does present fraud offences against government departments referred to the NFIB (Table C3). This includes Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) fraud and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) fraud, as well as fraudulent applications for grants from government funded organisations and DVLA driving licence application fraud.
Data for year ending December 2024 will be published on 24 April 2025 in the Crime in England and Wales: appendix tables.
