We hold data on live births, still births and infant deaths, but not on miscarriages. This data is held by NHS Digital, so they may be better placed to answer your query. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk, and by telephone at 0300 303 5678.
We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.
We hold the following analysis: Births in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) for 2020. There were 2371 stillbirths registered in England and Wales in 2020.
Provisional numbers of stillbirths for 2021 are published here: Provisional births in England and Wales: 2020 and Quarter 1 (Jan to Mar) 2021. This provides provisional analysis of births occurring between January 2020 and March 2021 in England and Wales using NHS birth notifications to explore possible effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on live births and stillbirths.
We can provide a monthly breakdown of stillbirths in England and Wales as a bespoke request. Monthly births and stillbirths along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality and life event data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and should be made to: Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
