To answer questions 7 and 8 on the definitions of domestic abuse and honour-based abuse, the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 provides a definition of domestic abuse, which can be found here: Domestic Abuse Act 2021. For further information on the legislation of domestic abuse, please contact the Home Office at domesticabuseenquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk. A definition of honour-based abuse can be found in the most recent honour-based abuse offences publication published by the Home Office here: Statistics on so called 'honour-based' abuse offences, England and Wales, year ending March 2024 - GOV.UK. More information can also be found on the Crown Prosecution website here: So-Called Honour-Based Abuse and Forced Marriage: Guidance on Identifying and Flagging cases | The Crown Prosecution Service. For any further questions on honour-based abuse, the Home Office would be best placed to assist and can be contacted at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk

In response to question 9 on the total number of domestic abuse complaints, the ONS is responsible for the publication of statistics relating to domestic abuse in England and Wales. These statistics are derived from two primary sources: the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and offences recorded by the police identified as domestic abuse related. Domestic abuse is often a hidden crime that is not reported to the police, therefore, data held by the police can only provide a partial picture of the actual level of domestic abuse experienced. Using self-reported data from the CSEW alongside police recorded crime provides a more accurate estimate of domestic abuse experienced in England and Wales. The most recent estimates published are for March 2024 and can be found here alongside historic data: Domestic abuse prevalence and victim characteristics - Office for National Statistics. Table 6 provide details of the prevalence of domestic abuse broken down by a number of characteristics including sex, sexual orientation and whether born in the UK or not. Table 1a to Table 5 and Table 7 include the number of domestic abuse incidents self-reported by victims broken down by partner (and ex-partner) or family member. Due to the sample size of the CSEW, further information on the region or country of origin of the victim is not available. For more information on police recorded crime, please contact the Home Office directly.

In response to question 10, honour-based abuse statistics are the responsibility of the Home Office. The most recent publication of these statistics can be found here: Statistics on so called 'honour-based' abuse offences, England and Wales, year ending March 2024 - GOV.UK. For further information, please contact the Home Office directly at CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk

To answer question 11 on the perpetrators of domestic abuse, we do not hold information on the breakdowns requested. For information we do hold on the perpetrators of domestic abuse, please refer to the most recently published data for England and Wales: Domestic abuse prevalence and victim characteristics - Office for National Statistics. For further information on the perpetrators of domestic abuse as well as honour-based abuse, please contact the Home Office.

To answer questions 12 and 13, some of this information can be found in the ONS' most recent homicide publication here: Homicide in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics. This publication includes, but is not limited to, trends in homicide rate, breakdowns including sex, age and ethnicity, the relationship between victims and suspects and the characteristics of convicted suspects. The ONS also publish data on homicide here: Appendix tables: homicide in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics. Published homicide data is sourced from the Home Office's Homicide Index which contains detailed record-level information about each homicide recorded by police in England and Wales. For more information, please contact the Home Office directly.

To answer questions 14 and 15, we publish some information on domestic abuse helplines within the domestic abuse compendium. Please contact the individual helplines directly for further information.

We are unable to answer questions 16, 17 and 18 as we are not responsible for policies on migration, domestic abuse or honour-based abuse. Please contact the Home Office who may be able to assist with your request.
